You would need a PC for any time you would need to make a change to the SD card in the 3DS system.

If the DS is running full custom firmware then you should be relatively safe to update.
Thegodlybeing wrote:3.how does installing game cartridges work? I can't find much online.
The same way it does with an un modded system. Insert game card into the slot on the device.

Normal system update will not brick. Modifying the contents of the SD card and attempting to upgrade the Custom Firmware without knowing what you're doing can result in a brick. the only brick protection is knowing what you're doing.

You should be able to with custom firmware, not sure on the specifics how.

Re: Order questions
I mean like installing a game cartridge to the SD card so you no longer need the cartridge

Also where do you recommend I begin? Like are there any YouTube videos to guide me through installing things. I am not fully familiar with 3ds modding so I need a run down of it all so if there's a tutorial or something please link me

The only tutorial for Modding the System firmware that you should follow is here.
