New forum system implemented

Postby domocoNT1 » Sat Jun 13, 2015 9:45 am

I feel like there should be a new forum system implemented into PokEdit.

Why? phpBB (the software this website runs on) isn't very customizable or feature packed. So honestly, we should get something like MyBB or vBulletin, because phpBB isn't all that great.

We were gonna use vBulletin but... it didn't turn out very well so we went back to phpBB.

Basically when Cake was transferring everything over to PokEdit 2.0 (which was gonna use vBulletin) things got a bit messy.

Yep, I was planning on using Vbulletin 5. They told me the system could transfer over before I bought it, then afterwards I found out they fibbed (it only works for really old versions). The newest version of VB5 looked really pretty and had a lot of features. So even though we had to transfer all the data on our own, I was still going to do it. But after testing it for a couple weeks it was just unbearably slow and we couldn't figure out how to fix it (i think anyone who using vb5 says it's extremely slow). So we just stuck with PHPbb in the end.

I would like to transition to a new system. I think next stage for PokEdit will be Neko and we'll have a fresh new boards. I plan on going with IPS forums next time. Their new system is really nice. I think everyone will like it.

MyBB is also pretty good. But honestly, I think either would be a giant step up from phpBB ;;

Yet it seemed perfectly fine.
